Today, I’m excited to share something deeply personal: the release of my new song “Higher” produced by DeliGotBeats. This track is the first in a batch of records I began working on when I first moved from Chicago to Columbia, SC. It represents a pivotal transition in my life, both professionally as I was stepping into the professoriate, and socially as I approached 40, left the comfort of home and family in Chicago, and carried the weight of watching my father battle Parkinson’s. “Higher” is special because it holds all of those emotions and turning points. It is the first single from my upcoming project, which is entirely produced by Deli. I am proud of what we created together, and I am even more proud to finally be sharing it with the world. I recorded this song (and most of the project) at the legendary Boom Boom Room, with Columbia’s own multi-hyphenate mainstay FatRat Da Czar. Many of these songs were born in 2021 and 2022, and after years of holding onto them, it feels right to finally put them into circulation. “Higher” is now available on all streaming platforms. I hope you will take a listen, and I hope it resonates with you the way it did with me when I wrote it. Peace.
